IRONMAN CANADA PENTICTON TRAINING CAMP
July 9-13, 2012
For those doing Ironman Canada in 2012 or even those considering it for 2013, this is a great opportunity to get familiar with the course and do some solid training leading to the big day. The 5-day camp (Monday – Friday) will include endurance and tempo training in all three disciplines and will allow you to swim, bike and run on the IM course.
The camp will include open water swims in Okanagan Lake and other valley lakes, scenic and challenging group rides, and some technical runs. Mid week we will ride the Ironman route with vehicle support. On the last day of camp there will be a supported run on the IMC marathon route (East Side Road to and from OK Falls). In addition, all participants will have an opportunity to work one on one with the coaches to develop your tactical and nutrition race plan.
Price for the camp is $250 per week. This does not include food or accommodation.
Accommodation: you are encouraged to find accommodation close to Lakeshore Drive near Okanagan Lake. Some motels include Days Inn, Ramada, or Bowmont. These are all very close to the west end of the beach near the Sicamous river boat. http://penticton.travel.bc.ca/accommodations/motels/ A less expensive option would be to rent a house or condo for the week with a group. Check with Jill or Chris ahead of time as they might be able to hook you up with some other athletes to share a rental.
Shops: Quality Greens, T Bones (prepared meats), Cobbs Bakery, Starbucks and Tim Hortons are all within a few blocks.
Grand Fondo; The timing of the camp is ideal for those that want to take part in the Valley First Axel Merckx Grandfondo on the Sunday preceding the camp, This is a non-competitive group ride in the fashion of long distance rides in Europe. Distance options include 55, 92, or 160km. www.granfondoaxelmerckx.com/
