Iron Girls Program:

Picture
Program Details:  The Irongirls Training Program provides a complete training program as preparation for the Irongirls Sprint distance race (Swim 800m, Bike 22.5km, Run 5km) in the resort area of Lake Las Vegas in early May every year.  If this particular race is not in your plans the training program can also be used for any early season race of your choice!  Race date for 2012 is Sunday, May 6.

This program includes:
  • 17 week program from early January to race day early May
  • minimum 2 swim, 2 bike, 2 run workouts weekly
  • one spin class each week at Tri-it:   Monday  6:30 -8:00 pm.  Tues 6:30 – 8:00 pm, Wed 9 – 10:30 am or Thursday 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
  • Coached swim workouts roughly twice monthly at Mount Royal University Pool (Friday evenings) covering some basic freestyle skills as well as open water swim techniques including mass starts, drafting, sighting etc.
  • Non-coached workouts with thorough description such that you can do the workouts on your own at your convenience
  • Periodized plan to allow for a gradual and safe progression
  • Benchmarking in swim, bike, and run to gauge progress over time (time trials)
  • Additional outdoor coached sessions in March & April (weather permitting) that will cover bike handling, transition practices, and packing your bike for travel
  • Full practice run-through at Lake Las Vegas the day before the race to ensure you know the course and feel confident and ready to step up to that start line!!!

To start you will need a swim suit, well fitting goggles, water bottle;  a bike, preferable a road or tri bike but a mountain bike or hybrid with a slick back tire will do; a good pair of runners.  For the race you will also need to either borrow or rent a wetsuit.  Tri-it rents wetsuits for $40 for the weekend.   Some folks bring their own bikes to Vegas but others choose to rent ($45/day).  See http://lasvegascyclery.com/articles/road-cross-and-tandem-bike-rentals-pg88.htm

Accommodations:  The group stays at the host hotel Loews Las Vegas, a deluxe hotel in the beautiful Lake Las Vegas Resort.  www.loewshotels.com/en/Lake-Las-Vegas-Resort

Travel:  We generally try to travel together as a group and can get a group discount with Westjet provided we have 10 + travelers.  (~$600 return flight)

Over 50 women have experienced this program with Jill and many have had wonderful experiences;  here is what a few have had to say:

·       The training was awesome…I actually completed a Triathlon, but gained so much more…confidence, strength and a new belief that my goals are attainable, and I met some amazing women along the way.

·       Thanks so much for introducing me to this sport and helping me navigate through starting out.

·       I think you're awesome!  Your sessions are positive, encouraging and motivating!  You make me believe I can do it!

·      The location was beautiful, what an amazing place to race, the bike and run courses were especially unique.  Having a group to train with is also such a wonderful thing, and then getting to do the race with everyone and celebrate at the finish line was terrific.
